The Namibian Institute of Culinary Education - A Model for Vocational Training

Since inception in 2010 - the Wolwedans Foundation has graduated over 250 young Namibians into the nations workforce. The majority of these trainees were Desert Academy graduates. The Wolwedans Desert Academy provides trainees with the unique opportunity to experience the industry through exposure to the Wolwedans Collection of Camps & Lodges. With this exposure, all aspects of the operations of the business are introduced to them on a regular basis through supervised participation.

The Foundation actively assists each certificated trainee to obtain employment. To this end, we have created a web based platform on ISSUU (online magazines and publications) https://issuu.com/travelnewsnamibia/docs/wolwedans_graduate_newsletter  where all of our trainees are showcased to the industry. The Foundation will facilitate the process of connecting potential employers with the graduates. The tourism and hospitality sector has shown its potential to become a significant engine of growth and employment generation in Namibia. The industry is labour intensive and only requires a willing pair of hands, the right mindset and attitude and of course, suitable training.
